Our guests often ask us – what it is really like to see the northern lights in person. There are lots of myths and rumors floating around the internet that say you can’t see vivid colors in person or that the northern lights don’t look the same to the naked eye as they do in in still photographs.
The simple reality is that it IS possible to exaggerate the way auroras look in photographs by using long shutter speeds or over editing in Photoshop, particularly when photographing an aurora that is weak to the naked eye. That said, it doesn’t have to be that way!
The Lights Over Lapland team always does our very best to produce images that show the world exactly what we saw, without over editing so you can see the lights exactly as we saw them during our aurora tours in Abisko National Park. With this in mind, there is an old adage that says “a picture is worth a thousand words” – if this is the case, we believe that a real time aurora video goes a thousand words further and shows our future travelers exactly what our guests experienced while they were participating in one of our evening tours in Abisko National Park.
Now that you know the truth about the northern lights please allow us to proudly present a couple of real time videos of auroras which was captured during the 2018-19 aurora season in Abisko National Park, Sweden.
