Book your adventure today!

Many of our locations are on lakes and rivers which allow you to see the auroras in the sky AND reflecting in the open water. This phenomenon only occurs during the Autumn and makes your time in Abisko unique when compared to the winter season. The National Park and surrounding areas have far fewer visitors in the Autumn, which makes your adventure with us a very genuine and authentic experience. Our team of professionals have more combined experience, and give you access to more spectacular aurora viewing locations than any other outfitter in Abisko. During your adventure we usually visit at least one of the following locations:

  • The scenic shoreline of Lake Torneträsk with stunning views in every direction!
  • A calm bay at the northwest end of Lake Torneträsk with incredible Arctic views and a cozy fire pit.
  • A spectacular location with panoramic views on the top of Bear Mountain near the border of Sweden and Norway.
  • An amazing aurora outlook in the mountains surrounding Björkliden.
  • A remote fishing village near the mouth of the Torne River which flows out of Lake Torneträsk.
  • AND MUCH MORE!!
  • Warm clothing is NOT included in this tour. It is important that you bring warm clothes to wear and warm insulated winter boots. Warm overalls and heavy duty arctic boots are available to rent for an extra charge.
  • Minimum age: 5 years old (we will not be able to provide any child seats in the vehicle).
  • Camera gear is not included, but it can be added for an additional fee of 200 SEK/person in the next booking step. Your guide has an in depth understanding of aurora photography and will be happy to give you a few pointers along the way!
  • A slightly different version of this tour is also available during the winter season December-March. Learn more

Can I decide later if I want to rent warm clothing for the tour?

Yes. You can add Arcitc overalls and/or warm boots for 150 SEK/person respectively. Please do let us know at least 3 hours before the start of the tour so we have enough time to prepare your gear. To add warm clothing after the booking has been made, please email us at [email protected] with the gear you require and sizes. If you choose to add warm clothing at time of booking our normal Company Policies apply.

Will I get a refund if I don’t see auroras?

The aurora borealis is a natural occurrence so Lights Over Lapland can not make any form of guarantee that you will see the lights during our tour. If you do not see the lights during your time with us and you want to give it another try please let us know and we will happily offer you a small discount on a new booking if we have availability. To request a discount on an additional tour please send an email to [email protected]

Will you cancel the tour in cloudy weather?

Based on over a decade of experience, we know the Northern Lights can still appear through clouds so we don’t cancel tours due to cloud cover. We only cancel if conditions are unsafe for our guides and guests. That being said, our team closely monitors the weather and aurora activity in real time and make strategic plans for the best possible viewing experience each night. Our guides are constantly in communication with one another during the tours, sharing information about conditions and any potential openings in the sky. This significantly increases your likelihood of seeing the auroras while you are here.

I’m driving from Narvik or Kiruna. Where should I meet the group?
If you are driving, the best place to meet is the STF Abisko Turiststation as they have a larger parking area. The hotel address is: STF Abisko Turiststation, 981 07 Abisko. Please be ready and waiting in the lobby no later than 7:30pm. Your guide will meet you there between 7:30pm and 7:45pm.

Please make sure you leave with plenty of time to spare as the group will not be able to wait if you are delayed. It’s also worth noting that the road between Narvik and Abisko might close in extreme weather. A refund is not possible if you miss the tour.

Can I follow the tour in my own rental car?
No. Due to safety reasons we do not allow guests to follow the tour with their own vehicle.
